'Emaciated' Cillian Murphy could 'only eat' one thing to lose weight for Oppenheimer
Emily Blunt has revealed the only thing Cillian Murphy ate in order to lose weight for his role as American theoretical physicist, J. Robert Oppenheimer, as he followed a strict diet for the leading role.
Oppenheimer is set to release in theaters on July 21, and follows the story of American scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) and his role in the development of the atomic bomb. We take a look at what Cillian’s diet consisted of to lose weight for the role, according to his on-screen love interest, Emily Blunt.

Cillian Murphy was ’emaciated’ from Oppenheimer diet
In an interview alongside Matt Damon with Extra TV, Cillian’s on-screen wife Emily Blunt said the star had “such a monumental undertaking.
“And he could only eat, like, an almond every day. He was so emaciated,” she continued.
Hollywood star Cillian went to ‘extreme lengths’ in preparation for his role as American theoretical physicist, J. Robert Oppenheimer, in Christopher Nolan’s latest movie.
Jumping in Damon said: “The sheer volume of work that he has, and the level of detail that Chris demands. There was always something for him to be thinking about.”
In a separate interview with Entertainment Tonight, speaking on Cillian Murphy’s Oppenheimer diet, Matt said revealed: “We invited Cillian to dinner every night, and he never went. He was losing so much weight for the part that he just didn’t eat dinner, ever.”
Cillian addresses Peaky Blinders movie
If the movie star isn’t busy enough with blockbuster Oppenheimer, rumors have since been circulating about a Peaky Binders film.
Speaking to Radio Times on the matter, after saying the ‘worst thing’ about Peaky Blinders was getting asked about the movie all the time, the 47-year-old said:
“I would love to do a movie if there’s more story to tell. I’ll wait and see but I have no update for you on that.”
Although it may not be the answer we wanted, at least it’s not a hard no!
When is Oppenheimer released?
Oppenheimer will be released on 21 July 2023, on the same day as the Barbie Movie.
The ‘rivalry’ has been the talk of the town, and was recently addressed by President Barbie herself, Issa Rae.
Speaking to Hollywood Reporter on the matter, the 38-year-old said fans should see Oppenheimer first, and then cleanse their pallet with Barbie after.
Sounds like a plan!
