An actress who had her Love Actually scenes deleted once spoke out and said it is “odd” it didn’t make the final cut.

Frances de la Tour, who played giant Madame Maxime in the fifth Harry Potter film Goblet of Fire, has said the fact her scene, which featured a lesbian couple, may have been “too dark” for the final film. Tour starred opposite Last Tango in Halifax star Anne Reid in the scenes as her partner. The movie’s director, Richard Curtis, has also had his say on the storyline that didn’t quite make it.

It was ‘odd’ scenes in Love Actually were deleted

Frances starred as a terminally ill woman named Geraldine, with Anne playing her headmistress partner, who worked at the school that Karen’s (Emma Thompson) son attended.

The two scenes involving the pair arguing over their favorite fancy sausages and cuddling up together later at night. Another scene in the Christmas flick saw Geraldine pass away, and did so shortly before the holidays.

On the scenes no longer being a part of the movie, Frances said: “We had a lovely scene. And I think it was the only gay scene. It’s odd that they cut it. Maybe it was too dark to bring into it. Because it ended up being quite a light and fluffy film, didn’t it?”

The celebrity continued by saying she had received a call to inform her that the bittersweet moments had been removed.

“We’re terribly sorry, but it’s got to be cut,” they reportedly told her.

Richard Curtis was ‘sorry’ the scene was cut out

Previously, Richard Curtis has commented on the Love Actually scenes being deleted on the film’s DVD commentary.

The Hollywood director explained: “I was really sorry to lose this.

“The idea was meant to be that you just casually meet this very stern headmistress, but later on in the film we suddenly fell in with her, and you realize that, no matter how unlikely it seems, any character you come across in life has their own complicated tale of love.”

The 67-year-old was recently called out over some of the film’s content … by his own daughter.

Not only did Love Actually feature some deleted scenes, but it also included some pretty questionable lines and plots from and between characters. Richard admitted when it came to comments made about his leading ladies’ bodies, such as Renée Zellweger and Martine McCutcheon.

He said in the conversation with his daughter: “I think I was behind, you know, behind the curve, and those jokes aren’t any longer funny, so I don’t feel I was malicious at the time, but I think I was unobservant and not as, you know, as clever as I should have been.”
